Property Tree times out to quickly - having to constantly login back in with the SMS code after a few minutes of staying idle
Once you've signed in for the day that should be it. You should not have to continuously sign back in multiple times throughout the day.
The email below was sent to all users on Monday 4 December regarding security and logins.
It's done! MRI SSO (Single Sign On) is in place for all Property Tree users! Thank you for your ongoing support and feedback as we have taken significant steps forward in enhancing your experience and security.
Some key points to note:
To never get locked out
- Multiple Factors: Configure multiple factors such as Okta Verify Authenticator and fingerprint so that you always have a backup method. This prevents login issues when mobile carriers experience outages if SMS is your only login method.
To keep your account secure
- Auto Log out: Sessions log out automatically unless a Property Tree tab was interacted with within 1 hour
- Sensitive Operation Challenge: Any page with the ability to change bank accounts require MFA verification
To keep things usable
- MFA Cool Down Activated: After being challenged for MFA you will now not be challenged again for at least 30 minutes
- Fast Factors: Some factors are faster than others. Factors such as Okta Verify Authenticator or finger print make MFA verification a breeze
Check out the Multifactor Authentication Options to learn more about the MFA options available or Change Multifactor Authentication to learn how to update your factors.
If you have any questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Together, let's continue to make property management smarter and safer.
Best regards,
The Property Tree Team

Hello everyone, this is Colin, the Product Manager for Property Tree.
I understand that the requirement to frequently re-authenticate is a pain point for many of you, as it interrupts your workflow. While disabling 2FA may seem like a quick fix, I want to clarify that it will not impact the 1-hour session timeout, and more importantly, could put your account security at risk.
We are acutely aware of the need to align security measures with a user-friendly experience. With that in mind, we are introducing Single Sign-On (SSO) in October. This will offer you a broader array of authentication methods, designed to make the login process smoother without sacrificing security.
Your feedback is crucial as we move forward with these enhancements.

I used to be able to not have my mobile out at work, now I have to have it constantly just to be able to sign in. It then has the potential to be a distraction and when there are clients (we do more than real estate) in reception it looks unprofessional for me to grab my phone to have to do the verification process. Having to have it out and handy also presents a risk to my personal property. If I am called away and forget to pick it up, it is sitting in an open area, close to the street front in a well trafficked area of town. For many reasons, having it time out seems less helpful than the hinderance it causes. I agree that having the ability to set the time-out would be helpful and allow us to customise it according to use/application.

I personally would prefer to have control over idle timeout settings for my organisation so they can be set in line with our risk management policy. Even if, for example, there is a maximum timeout of 8 hours I would prefer the option to lower that or adjust per user type (eg. administrators have a shorter idle window).

OMG, this is extremely annoying. PT definitely need to address this!!

I agree, this is extremely frustrating and embarassing when you need to access information quickly for clients. This needs to be prioritised.

It would be great to have acknowledgement that MRI/PT monitor this forum and are taking on board the comments being posted.

Mine seems to log out after very short periods of time (5-30minutes), extremely frustrating when you have a client on the phone and they have to wait for you to log back in.

This is so frustrating - your time out should not be 60 minutes of no use. We are all trying to do multiple tasks and having to sign into PT multiple times a day is a waste of time and very very frustrating. I would understand if its 3 hours, but 60 minutes???

I urge you to address below issue urgently.
1. Random Logouts:
Users have experienced random logouts while using the system (even the system is only used & login by 1 user at one time). This occurs halfway through tasks, leading to data loss and wasted time. This issue not only hampers productivity but also leads to user frustration and decreased confidence in the system's reliability.2. Session Limit:
We as user found that system only allows a very few minimum user (only one user) to be logged in simultaneously. When few users attempts to log in, the system forcibly logs out one of the existing users without any prior notification. This disrupts ongoing work and causes frustration even very annoyed and stress to other users.Due to these bugs, a task that should take around 20 minutes is taking more than 2 hours to complete on average. This inefficiency is not only impacting our daily operations but also straining our resources and user morale.
Thus, as a user, I urge PT support/developer team to attend the bugs promptly.
The login session for each user should be valid for 24 hours (at least) after successfully login to the system and do not disconnect user connection session randomly & frequently. -

We find this incredibly frustrating and have contacted PT a couple of times but receive the same generic answer - "system needs upgrading, too many logged in, use another browser, poor internet connection, etc".
We have just upgraded our computer system and we never had any problem with the continual logging out prior to the 2FA changeover.

The time period before the app logs you out. I noticed that since you have changed the sign-in process the time period before the app logs you out has reduced significantly. This is very painful and required us to log back in frequently. I am sure there are many other people using PT that would agree with this.
