Property Tree times out to quickly - having to constantly login back in with the SMS code after a few minutes of staying idle
Once you've signed in for the day that should be it. You should not have to continuously sign back in multiple times throughout the day.
The email below was sent to all users on Monday 4 December regarding security and logins.
It's done! MRI SSO (Single Sign On) is in place for all Property Tree users! Thank you for your ongoing support and feedback as we have taken significant steps forward in enhancing your experience and security.
Some key points to note:
To never get locked out
- Multiple Factors: Configure multiple factors such as Okta Verify Authenticator and fingerprint so that you always have a backup method. This prevents login issues when mobile carriers experience outages if SMS is your only login method.
To keep your account secure
- Auto Log out: Sessions log out automatically unless a Property Tree tab was interacted with within 1 hour
- Sensitive Operation Challenge: Any page with the ability to change bank accounts require MFA verification
To keep things usable
- MFA Cool Down Activated: After being challenged for MFA you will now not be challenged again for at least 30 minutes
- Fast Factors: Some factors are faster than others. Factors such as Okta Verify Authenticator or finger print make MFA verification a breeze
Check out the Multifactor Authentication Options to learn more about the MFA options available or Change Multifactor Authentication to learn how to update your factors.
If you have any questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Together, let's continue to make property management smarter and safer.
Best regards,
The Property Tree Team

Its 7.34am - I have been logged on for less than 30 minutes and have already had to log back in for the second time.
It is honestly getting stupid. -

Stop it from logging out and having to repeat the steps every time , why is this not the same as Vault once a week. Frustrating and totally unnecessary.

No improvement with the timing out of Property Tree after all this extra login requirements.
I will say it again, when you login for the day, that should be it, Property Tree should not log you out.
This constant logging in after been timed out (and this can be after just a few minutes) is time wasting, it's unprofessional, very frustrating and down right inconvenient.
Please get this sorted, this has been going on for way too long now.

The amount of times I am asked to enter a code to use property tree is becoming too much. I get asked every time I log into property tree, then when I click on anyone’s financials it asks for a code, then if I want to click on my user details it sends a code. It also logs me out within an hour. Its just too much. Our other CRM systems don't even have 2 step authenticator, let alone multiple times inside the platform. Once in the platform, that should be enough for the day. Once logged in we can assume it is the correct user using the platform. Outlook only asks for two step authenticator about once a month. Unsure why PT feel the need to ask hourly.

It is way beyond time this was fixed Mr Bowie ... It's a fair guess it involves the change of no more than one parameter in the code and a bit of testing ... considering the frustration this is causing, it should be top of the list ... right now, you've got the balance between data security and user convenience and responsibility completely wrong IMO

Bill Watson, well said.

The new two factor authentication is a good security measure required in this day and age. However, the implementation and timing out is frustrating and the the amount of time the program sits there before you have to log back in is ridiculous.
Your comments about the optimal time to log out when you walk away from your computer is not your concern, this should be variable set by user. Your interference with this function all be it meant with good intent is poorly executed.
You can be in front of your computer, and get side tracked with emails and other tasks and still it logs you out.Think about the operators who are YOUR CUSTOMERS and LISTEN

This is a huge frustration with the constant logins on multiple devices. NOT HAPPY
-
Henry Cahillane commented
Just dropping in to clarify that recent updates to SSO/MFA have done nothing to help with this problem.
MFA should not be required at every single login on a known device. Being logged out regularly would not be a problem at all if MFA wasn't required every single time.

For me the new system is logging me out regardless on if I have been working on it or not. That is not helpful at all.

Its 10.15am, I've had to log in 3 times already today.
update its 12.30pm, logged in for my 4th time on my computer, have also worked with a colleague on a couple things between then and now, so she has logged in with me twice. That's 6 log ins today - we're only half way through the day. -

Longer log in time

Could you include in your system a preference not to get a code whenever we log-in to a the same computer?
For example:
"Trust this device"
"Trust this device for seven days"
etc.It is time consuming getting and entering a code whenever we log-in in a the same computer.

This is becoming more and more frustrating with PT timing out a number of times during EOM today - there was certainly no "downtime" and no other users dropping in - this must be addressed as a matter of urgency or we will certainly, for one, be looking at moving across to another platform.

>With additional two factor authentication methods being introduced soon, we are currently looking at what the optimal log out session time is when you walk away from your PC - let us know in the comments or reply to this email.
I think the wrong question is being asked here. People that walk away from their PC with a database full of sensitive information open should probably have it locked after 0.1 seconds. Making people complete 2FA multiple times a day is certainly not the solution.
No wonder people are so frustrated, as it’s clear you’re misunderstanding our complaints.
2FA should be implemented the same way so many other market leaders have done: any new device or device accessed from a distant location should require 2FA. Once verified the user should have the option to be remember the device for 30/60/90 days.
Would it be a bad idea to just follow the market leaders here?
There is no harm in having a session timer, just don’t make us 2FA every single time.

When are you people going to fix this issue?! This is getting ridiculous now!
-
Bill Watson commented
This is getting ridiculous, we understand the need for additional security and I have complained about the issue but been told it logs you out after 1 hour.
As read in many comments the one hour is more like 5 - 10 minutes a lot of times.
Get this fixed it is a time waster and annoying -
Matthew Nicholls commented
Currently we are being logged out of PT automatically after a period of inactivity and are constantly having to log back in - We would like to be able to edit the logout time or eliminate it altogether.

Steph Chopping commented
Would love this feature! Only annoying thing about PT!

Its not even 10am and I've signed in at 7.47, signed back in at 8.18 and again at 9.52, I was using it consistently during this period and at no point was it left idle for 60 minutes. It is timing out much more frequently than stated. This is extremely frustrating.
